Sean Hutchinson
Sean has been putting out fires and herding squirrels for nearly 15 years as a video producer and digital post-production jack of all trades. After getting a graduate degree in Digital Motion Imaging at Georgia State University (and animating “Kenny’s Mannequins” for NBA on TNT) Sean pulled up stakes and moved to the Pacific Wonderland that is Portland. His first film job in Portland involved guarding a stump in Oxbow Park in the wee hours of the rainy season. RCTID! Go Timbers!

Apps? Fun Stuff vs Productive Tools
By now you’ve seen the commercial a dozen times. The little-girl-turned-aspiring-actress that bemoans her parents’ data plan. Seems the folks have had to make some tough decisions as to what stays and what goes on the old “smartie” phone. Hello, micro-strategy app: goodbye charming video of their daughter, dressed as a tree, and her stunning delivery of her only line in the school play (“Watch out for my roots!”). She chides her parents, as only a precocious child actor can, about their prioritization of a business-related app over preserving this precious…

Mmm…Chocolatey!
One thing people who know me well know about me is this…I’m cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. Actually that isn’t entirely true, I was never allowed to get chocolate cereal as a kid, and if I had been, I would have totally gone for Count Chocula. But it is true that I have chocolate on the brain these days, and that’s owed in no small part to the work we’ve been doing here at the shop on Mark Roush’s short film Persephone. In the free association, free range pathways of my mind,…

Working Stiffs Keep it Loose
Our network went down briefly today. ADi’s 3D Technical Director, Nick Nakadate just lurked into the office during the lull with his NERF Vigilon and sprayed a scattershot of discs across the conference room table. “He’s pretty accurate,” Artistic Director, Vince Nimmoor offered, “because of the quality of his gun, which is boardline cheat-level because he special orders his.” You might think that these things have slowed down here at the offices of Animation Dynamics, Incorporated in beautiful Industrial Northwest Portland. It’s quite the contrary, in truth. Despite the fact that the Consumer Electronics…

The Beat Goes On
Dear Readers, If you’ve been following along in these pages, you know that ADi has taken on a creative VFX gig for an independent short in collaboration with Mark Roush of New Adjustment. We’ve been taking a workmanlike approach to the green screen keying, trying to knock out a few shots every week as we develop the look and feel for the backgrounds and our “hero” chararacter (more on the mist demon to follow). ADi’s Art Director, Vince Nimmor, has done the lion’s share of the keying–all of it, really–and while…

Most Incomplete
We’ve been working on a short film called Persephone with Director Mark Roush of New Adjustment Productions. The story follows the travails of a young woman made entirely of chocolate. Unfortunately for Persephone her adoptive parents, greedy confectioners, possess in their daughter (and her regenerative capabilities) a proverbial cash cow. Or should that be Brown Cow? This project has been a great opportunity for collaboration, and Mark had the foresight to bring us in early in pre-production so that we could participate in the shoot with post-production in mind. We’re still…
