Kalina Torino

Art Director

Kalina spends her days at ADi in the 2D-digital art realm with her beloved Cintiq Monitor doing the job she loves. An excessive work ethic and loads of caffeine allow her to take on a variety of projects with vigor and almost too much effort…she has no need for a “make-awesome” button.

    After Effects Camera Tips

    Related Skill Sets: 2D

I’ve been working on a project that involves seamlessly integrating a 2D composited scene with a pre-rendered animated 3D sequence that has a camera move.  We normally would avoid this situation, however, for time constraint reasons and simply to take some of the load off of our animator’s back, I have constucted a 2D set in After Effects using 3D objects in the scene to mimic the 3D shot that I need to match it to.  We like to call this 2 and a half D magic. If I hadn’t seen…

The Canvas: figure drawing on Mondays

The Canvas bistro is my new favorite place to be creative in Portland. Most importantly, previously bland Monday nights are now eagerly welcomed: costumed model figure drawing goes from 6-8pm (conveniently timed with Happy Hour), accompanied by a relaxed atmosphere and fantastic local food + drink. Complimentary eco-friendly art supplies are provided for your drawing needs while additional supplies are also available for purchase. Perfect combo for a great evening. As the Art Director here at ADi, it’s important for me to continuously endeavor to hone my drawing skills; and there…

    PDX Galleries to check out

In the spirit of ADi’s show and tell day, in which we share our sources of inspiration, I am providing a list of local galleries I frequent to help me climb out of the ruts I find myself in artistically. My local sources of inspiration: Screaming Sky 1416 NE Alberta Street  Portland, OR Love! Features artists whose work is often reminiscent of the fun, stylized nature of classic animation. The gallery is adorned with custom vinyl figures & collectibles, paintings, and books. Be sure to stop in on the last Thursday of every month…

    Happy Earth day!

April is upon us… ‘Tis the season of Earth Day and Spring cleaning! I state, with pride, that ADi is an environmentally-aware business that has recently expanded upon it’s internal recycling program. Being a business that is forced to stay continually up-to-date with the fast-paced technological advancements within the animation industry, it poses a bit of difficulty in keeping in tune with Earth-friendly methods. For instance, ADi has recently undertaken the task of cleaning out and organizing the unused, technologically-outdated equipment that once played an integral part in the production processes, now…
